Recently, CNIPA announced the main statistics of intellectual property rights from January to September 2020. According to statistics, the number of applications and authorizations for the three types of patents has all achieved a growth trend:
1.103 million invention patent applications (a year-on-year increase of 10.5%) and 361,000 invention patents were granted (a year-on-year increase of 4.4%).
2.133 million utility model patent applications (a year-on-year increase of 33.1%) and 1.725 million utility model patent applications (a year-on-year increase of 50.1%).
561,000 design patent applications (a year-on-year increase of 6.1%), and 555,000 design patent applications (a year-on-year increase of 39.3%).
1. Patent
From January to September 2020, my country has 1.103 million invention patent applications (a year-on-year increase of 10.5%) and 361,000 invention patents (a year-on-year increase of 4.4%). As of the end of September 2020, the number of effective invention patents in my country was 2.929 million, of which, the effective number of domestic (excluding Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan) invention patents was 2.095 million, and the number of invention patents per 10,000 population reached 15.0.
From January to September, my country’s utility model patent applications were 2.133 million (a year-on-year increase of 33.5%) and 1.725 million utility model patents were granted (a year-on-year increase of 50.1%). As of the end of September 2020, the effective number of utility model patents was 6.494 million.
From January to September, my country had 561,000 design patent applications (a year-on-year increase of 6.1%) and 555,000 design patents (a year-on-year increase of 39.3%). As of the end of September 2020, the effective number of design patents was 2.102 million.
From January to September, the State Intellectual Property Office received 49,000 PCT international patent applications (a year-on-year increase of 24%), of which 45,000 were domestic.
From January to September, the State Intellectual Property Office accepted 40,300 reexamination requests (a year-on-year increase of 0.8%), and closed 37,900 cases (a year-on-year increase of 30.7%). Accepted 4,400 invalidation requests (a year-on-year increase of -12%), and closed 6,100 cases (a year-on-year increase of 22%).
2. Trademark
From January to September 2020, the number of trademark applications in my country was 6.867 million (a year-on-year increase of 20.5%), and the number of trademark registrations was 4.131 million (a year-on-year increase of -19.2%). As of the end of September 2020, there were 28.717 million valid registered trademarks.
From January to September, there were 98,000 trademark opposition applications in my country (a year-on-year increase of -12.4%), and 105,000 opposition cases were examined (a year-on-year increase of 66.1%).
From January to September, the State Intellectual Property Office received 5,836 applications for Madrid trademark international registration from Chinese applicants (a year-on-year increase of 28.2%).
From January to September, the State Intellectual Property Office received 262,000 applications for trademark review cases (a year-on-year increase of -6.9%), and closed 267,000 cases (a year-on-year increase of 7.7%).
3. Geographical indications, integrated circuit layout design
From January to September 2020, the State Intellectual Property Office approved 670 companies using special signs for geographical indication products, and approved 439 registration of geographical indication trademarks. As of September 2020, a total of 2,385 geographical indication products have been approved, 9,184 companies using special signs have been approved, and a total of 5,757 geographical indication trademarks have been registered.
From January to September 2020, there were 8,851 applications for registration of integrated circuit layout designs in my country, and 8,024 were issued.
